Galerie Platini, always a surprise
Sylvie & Alexis Platini
When it comes to the Platini family, I always seek out the mother! Because, if there is a place where family and friendship counts, it is Sylvie Platini’s gallery!
The eponymous gallery opened in 1994 at the gates of Annecy, and benefits from a large space between lake and mountain, where they showcase outstanding contemporary artists. In this space, painters and sculptors have become strong allies. «We have a close relationship with our artists who appreciate how involved we are in our work.» After having bathed in this artistic environment throughout his entire childhood, Alexis Platini, the son, trained at the Ecole des Mines and then worked in the R&D department of a large household appliance group, before events brought him back to the family business three years ago. “I worked part-time for two years, in our Lyon gallery*, and as I was passionate about it, I took over the full management a year ago.” A full-time job where he shares his time between place des Célestins and Crans-Montana where they opened a 3rd gallery last December. While certain artists such as Jean-Yves FREMAUX or Jürgen LINGL have seen Alexis grow up, other young artists such as Aurélien GRUDZIEN or the sculptors Mathias SOUVERBIE and Olivier BERTRAND have joined the ranks more recently. The teams organise all kinds of events for them: private viewings, exhibitions, partnerships... “The goal being that we are their intermediaries and that while the artists are in their studio, we stand in front of the public”.
“Our business is constantly evolving which means we are constantly renewing ourselves. Today, we represent our artists beyond our galleries, whether in salons, on social media or at events elsewhere. We have plenty of project ideas for them.” To help them in this task, the mother and son pair have expanded their teams. “It was important for me to surround myself with people of my generation, with whom I launched the digital gallery.” When it comes to purely artistic choices, the essence of it all, Alexis builds on what he learned in his childhood, while ensuring to step
out of his comfort zone. “As my mother has always done, we try to renew what we showcase in the gallery in order to constantly surprise the audience. It is important for us not to rest on our laurels and to lead our customers somewhere they do not expect.” Thus, while remaining accessible, they take us towards pure abstraction thanks to the cement works of Aurélien Grudzien or Olivier Bertrand’s unexpected cardboard portrayals. «Come and meet us, our galleries remain exhibition sites for living artists, free and open to all.» You’ve been invited!
